A group of armed men attacked president Joseph Kabila residence in Kinshasa on Sunday. The were repelled by his guards, leaving at least six assailants dead.
Speaking Sunday on state television, Minister of Information and government spokesman Lambert Mende said that a commando had attacked the residence around 4pm and was stopped at the first check point.
“The situation is under control, calm has returned and the existing institutions are functioning normally. The Congolese people can go about their business peacefully,” Mende said.
He urged the population to be calm and to report all those seeking to overthrow the government or cause panic to the authorities.
