A private jet belonging to former Katanga Province governor Katumba Mwanke crashed at 1pm on Sunday near the airport of Bukavu, South Kivu Province. According to state radio and television broadcaster RTNC, Katumba Mwanke, the pilot, and the copilot were killed.

President Kabila will rally supporters at Stade des Martyrs, while Etienne Tshisekedi has announced a rally in the capital upon his arrival at Njili airport. Vital Kamerhe will also hold a final rally at Stade Tata Raphael.

UDPS candidate Etienne Tshisekedi rejected a joint bid of the opposition in the forthcoming presidential election during a press conference in Lubumbashi, Katanga Province, on Saturday.

The Minister of Communication and Media, Lambert Mende, said on Wednesday that the government will ensure peace and security during the upcoming elections.

Katanga Province governor Moise katumbi told reporters over the weekend he won’t run for presidential elections set to be held in 2011. He attributed rumors of his candidacy to those in the national and international media “looking for sensational stories to sell newspapers.”
