President Joseph Kabila has been declared the winner of the November 28 presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Independent National Electoral Commission announced Friday that Mr. Kabila won re-election with 48,95% of the votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission released Thursday night the provisional list of candidates in the November 28 presidential election.
President Joseph Kabila has carried-out a long-awaited government reshuffle aimed at improving performance and good governance. Adolphe Muzito has been reappointed as Prime Minister, Francois Joseph Nzanga Mobutu will also stay on as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Employment, Labor and Welfare.
Swiss authorities have indicated that 8.3 million US dollars in funds belonging to Mobutu Sese Seko will be returned to his family on December 15, 2008. The funds were frozen on May 17, 1997 after the death of the former Congolese president.
